The award was presented by MDU chief executive Dr Matthew Lee, and aims to highlight individuals, teams and organisations that are successfully embracing the opportunity that comes from advances in medical technology, data and connectivity.
The Wessex Kidney Centre was the very deserving winner of this award. The centre won the award for being at the forefront of delivering medical advancements via the MyRenalCare platform.
This platform enables patients to build their own electronic health record and manage their symptoms, empowering patients to get the help they need, when they need it, while also reducing the burden on primary and emergency care.
During his speech, Dr Lee commented: "The delivery of healthcare is constantly changing. Advances in treatment and medication are emerging all the time. As the NHS looks to the future, it needs innovators.
"However, innovation is rarely, if ever, without risk. That is why the MDU is proud of the role we play at the heart of the NHS: supporting tens of thousands of healthcare professionals across NHS England with the range of medico-legal issues that can arise from their professional practice.
"As the NHS moves forward, its great asset remains its people – many of whom are our members. We stand with them: support, guide and defend them – and that is where will always be. An organisation that can be counted upon.
"All the nominees of this award were of an exceptionally high standard, which demonstrates the strength of the NHS and that we can be optimistic about its future."
In a speech welcoming the secretary of state for health and social care and other healthcare leaders to the ceremony, Tom Reynolds, head of policy and strategic communications at the MDU said: "The NHS will always ace challenges, but it is held up by an incredible workforce – innovators, adapters, dedicated professionals. The NHS has been able to rely on the MDU since day one, as we guide, defend and support those professionals. We will always be there for them, and will always be there for the NHS".
Other nominees in this category included the Initial Response Service (IRS) and GP Automate, both of whom were highly commended by the judging panel.
