Statistics

During 2023:

  • Our award winning membership team received 110,000 calls with 78% answered within 20 seconds.
  • 100% of 77,000 emails and letters were responded to within five working days.
  • Over the last 10 years, we successfully defended over 80% of medical claims, making no compensation payments.
  • Over 99% of member requests for help with medico-legal issues are supported (over a five year period).
  • Our team of expert advisers, who are doctors and dentists themselves, answered almost 22,000 calls to our advice lines. 
  • 98.3% of calls to the MDU medico-legal helpline are connected straight to a medico-legal adviser during normal working hours.
  • In medical tribunal cases at the MPTS, MDU solicitors representing members achieved no finding of impairment in 45% of cases compared to the average of 28% (2017-2021). 
  • In GDC Professional Conduct Committee cases DDU solicitors representing members achieved no finding of impairment in 50% of cases. The equivalent GDC figure for outcomes overall is 18%. (2022)
  • City and Guilds group awarded us with two Princess Royal Training awards for our membership development and medico-legal assistant training programmes.
